About Michael Fabiano
Michael Fabiano is a mechanical engineer and graduate research assistant at Rutgers School of Engineering, where he works with Professor Stephen Tse’s research group. A Rutgers School of Engineering graduate, Michael has built his career around the practical side of engineering: designing, testing, and improving complex systems, then making those systems understandable and useful to others.
While at Rutgers, Michael served as president of Rutgers Formula Racing, the student team that designs and builds a Formula SAE race car. His senior design work included developing a compact fatigue-testing system for welded steel and aluminium race-car components. He also participated in Rutgers Business School’s Collaborative for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization, which brings engineering and business students together to turn technical ideas into viable products. Michael has remained involved with Formula Racing as an alumnus, returning to support design reviews and mentor current students.
Michael brings the same hands-on, systems-minded approach to Freedom OS. In the course, he helps students move from proprietary platforms to Linux and introduces practical self-hosting, giving non-specialists a clearer path towards owning their tools, data, and digital infrastructure.
